Eddie Murphy hasn’t touched the comedy stage officially in years but his body of work is still being talked about. Rap artist Drake recently released his newest album VIEWS and we could’nt help but catch a small nod to Murphy on the song Weston Road Flows.

I’m looking at their first week numbers like what are those….I mean you boys not even coming close.. I gave n*ggas like you a reason for celebration… you #1, I’m Eddie Murphy, we Trading Places

If you can see in Drake’s lyrics he goes on to reference Murphy’s 1983 comedy Trading Places. Here’s how Drake used Murphy as a metaphor, noted by Genius; Drake makes this reference to explain how the beginning of his life was similar to that of Murphy’s character and soon became wealthy and successful. Even after all these years Murphy still is considered the pinnacle for comedy.
