You might not automatically associate David Letterman with a pair of Jordan sneakers but it’s time you should. Tomorrow stores will begin selling The Air Jordan 1 High OG David Letterman and the shoe which was inspired by Michael Jordan’s past interview with David Letterman will set you back $ 160.
As it turns out, the interview is pretty memorable for many reasons, not least of which is the swishy, shiny tracksuit Jordan turned up in. In fact, it’s that bright red-and-blue tracksuit that has inspired a special pair of Air Jordan 1s—dubbed the “Lettermans”—that hits shelves tomorrow. His onscreen sartorial transition from preppy-ish college kid to oversized athleisure lover inspired the crimson-and-navy colorway for these latest Jordans. The other big takeaway from Jordan’s talk-show appearance is seeing how an Adidas lover like Letterman (he even was sent 50 pairs of Adidas kicks that same year) was wary of promoting Air Jordans on his show. In fact, he literally tries to cover the Swoosh with his hand, to not-so-great success. In hindsight, it’s safe to say his efforts did little to stop the Air Jordan brand’s popularity, but 30 years later, at least it spawned a dope sneaker.
